We took direct trade literally
Our Coffee Story. Part One.
In 2016 we drove our 1999 Suzuki Grand Vitara from Oakland, California to Chiapas, Mexico and all the way back up to Oakland, California. Yes, with 450 pounds of green coffee in the back.
We had been coffee shop owners since 2012 and had just started roasting our own coffee for the shop. We had no idea who our coffee farmers were or how much they were actually getting paid. That was an issue.
So we imported our own coffee straight from the farm and actually paid more for the green coffee and still ended up saving a bunch of money, but more importantly we were able to build a direct relationship with our coffee farmers that still exists today.
Oakland - Chiapas
Not all roasters or coffee shop owners can take the term “direct trade” literally as we did by visiting their coffee farmers and driving thousands of miles with a bunch of coffee in their truck. We did and that is what makes our coffee special, because for us it is never just about the product, it is about the relationship between people, environment and the land.
Our coffee mission is to contribute to the economic and environmental well being of coffee farmer communities by building a coffee supply circle that benefits them too. We source, roast and distribute our coffee with care ensuring value is reciprocated.
We bring you a rich coffee from the “Los Altos” region of Chiapas, Mexico with tasting notes of chocolate, red apple and cinnamon. Enjoy and share with your family, friends and community. Get your local non-profit off conventional coffees and purchase them a bulk batch of this people-first coffee.
What are you waiting for? Go ahead and support an Indigenous/Chicano coffee business and make an impact on both sides of the border.
